An elgy for innocence

Innocence, how did I lose you?
Once as a child, my innocent smiles,
Mesmerized young and old adults alike,
The laughter soft as morning dew,
Disappeared with the rising sun.
Innocence, how did I lose you?
As kids we believed in all the stories our parents told,
Mickey mouse was real, so was flying Dumbo,
The fleeting cherished moments still linger in my heart.
Innocence, how did I lose you?
As adults, new adventures in life began,
Love, learning, and striving to be the best,
Sometimes choked the throat of innocence.
Innocence, how did I lose you?
In older age, wrinkled face took over the innocence,
When trying to find peace for my soul,
The fleeing innocence consoled my heart.
