Notes About The Poem

5/8/25

AN AVERAGE DAY DOWN AT THE FUNNY FARM

Sir Billy Pig’s missing his oats Miss Piggy Wig’s had hers, she gloats But she’s looking so rough Her bum’s full of crap stuff Its output is brown and it floats! I’m advised by a pal of mine To “Never cast pearls before swine” Or put lipstick on a pig When it’s mouthing off big Miss Piggy Wig’s an old bovine!

Glad I made you smile Brenda, FYI I've published 2 books of my silly poems on Amazon, amazing for a poetry hater at school and a total novice to poetry in 2014! hugs Jan xx

Jan, your humor in the limerick format is epic. Little joyful, clever snacks. I read them on tough days and seldom have time to post my gratitude, but they make me smile. That’s what good friends do. You’re the best. One day I’ll travel to your island and we’ll catch up in person. Keep sharing your sunlight!

- "Casting pearls before swine" I've heard many times ... but what does it really mean ... had to google it :" it means giving something valuable to someone who doesn't appreciate it. The expression is originally from the Bible" - A funny poem and photo, Jan :) - hugs

Thanks Anne-Lise I saw from Abdullah its from the bible - I hadn't realised. When i was a private nanny a friend had a little toy pig in her room with pearls round its neck - when i commented on it - she said it was a dig at a fella she had been dating - didn't realise he was married and he was a policeman and in the Uk they are sometimes known as 'pigs' (100% true story!) hugs jan x

Oh Jan, this one had me snorting with laughter! The sass, the mess, and the perfect punchlines—absolutely hilarious. You really do have a gift for cheeky brilliance!

I didn't see a Poop Warning! I thought you made a practice of that, noticed when I came back in Jan. or whenever it was. Hysterical and appreciated. It is a day in need of humor, indeed it is, so I came here and got me some. Thank you, Darling Jan. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

"Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you". Matthew 7:6. Yeah! "wallow in muck". Have a nice evening dear Jan :-) hugs xx

Too many funerals on your little island, Jan. Casting good thoughts before pigs is a waste of time and information for they will only wallow in muck.

Thanks Lin, yeah I think this will be the 9th funeral this year but i guess, in part that's because it is a small close knit community (not counting the ones where hubby does the PA system and we don't know the person) hugs jan xx

You know how you get these silly ideas - I googled "never cast pearls before swine" and found lots of funny pictures and this one inspired the poem! Needed a laugh today - found out a friend's husband has passed away and we've got to go to a funeral on Friday - such is life eh! hugs Jan xx
