"Amid the jagged shadows of mossy leafless boughs; "
- Samuel Taylor Coleridge
As we walk amid our jagged shadows
through the seldom treaded,
treacherous footpath of life; and our shadows
walk ahead. What if they make the road
to our destination obscure?
How far can we see down the pathway?
We're often too busy looking straight ahead
trying to get to where we're going.
Our eyes too laser-focused ahead that we never
bother to look down and check for bumps...
that we could stub our feet on, or worse, trip us.
And there's no escaping life's accidents.
Our shadows are our loyal companions, our guide...
but they could betray, you know? They could
rub us of the light needed to see a bump
on the pathway, and we stub our feet on it!
We could trip but break our fall
Or we could trip, tumble over and crash...
in the dirt with a thud; bruised and bleeding
writhing in pain, but whatever happens....
we must rise up and soldier on!
