Notes About The Poem

Americans in Paris

Is there anything left to learn from the news cycle anymore?
You’re either pro-totalitarianism or you’re not. periodt.
True, Trump is erratic, anti-life and anti-meaning –
but it’s never a good time to drop a piano on someone.

I was born in Paris, I enjoy dual citizenship, but I consider myself American. As a child we lived a few years (like 5th and 6th grades) in Paris and I’m living there now, attending Université Paris Cité.

My French is flawless, I dress French and act French but when Trump crazy comes up, I get looks (how do they know?), like he’s my fault or problem and for heaven’s sake I should step in and stop him.

Americans used to be looked up to - those days are over people -
we SUCK.

It's subtle, but I get the arithmetic, there’s a calculation where my American ‘ethnicity’ (shall we say) subtracts from my opportunities, relationships and respect. Oh, my, poor me.

Peter (my bf) fake-gasps, “There’s a dent in your “pretty privilege?” (he’s so funny).
“Oh, turn it on me,” I groaned, “I’m just saying..”
That’s when he admitted that he’d sensed it too, as an American in Paris - and normally guys aren’t usually that sensitive - are they?
(sorry guys)

Trump is anti-life? He’s the most pro-life President in living memory. I don’t know what anti-meaning is supposed to be. I know this, 10% of France is Muslim and it is projected that will double by 2050. Same thing with Germany so instead of criticising Trump Europe should be heeding him. France should be trying to save their country and culture before it’s too late. Instead of freeloading off America and losing sight of western values they should be thanking Trump.

I'm 22 Mr. T. not a minor. =] President Trump's approval rating is 34% - you must be watching Newsmax or something - but OK, easy, peezy - our votes will just cancel each other *shrug*

My gun is still in my holster and I don’t shoot minors. I’m just pointing out all empirical evidence is to the contrary.

Keith, I can tell you like Trump. Relax, every opportunity to post isn't 'high noon.' Everyone who disagrees with you about Trump isn't attacking you personally. If you're happy with Trump, you're happy with Trump! ok. =]

Remember I told you to get out of town if you could during Benedict Donald's first term. You told me to chill out and stop checking the news. / I don't think the antipathy is just because of Fearless Leader. I think there's a bit of additional distain toward us generally (I mean beyond the usual amount the French have for anyone not French) because he was voted in TWICE by us. / Happy for your options and glad you're there. / <3

Come on, the French aren't any more standoffish that New Yorkers. Everyone thinks all Americans love the orange one - otherwise - why twice Trump? It's really twice too much. I don't watch the news here either - France has it's own issues - but I don't know what they are. =]
