American Tragedy - Warning, a Bit Graphic

Tina was a prostitute
          a lady of the night
By day she whiled the hours away
          staying out of sight

        Though she had repeat business
          she earned no royalties
for bending over at the waist
~ or sinking to her knees

I agree, a terrible tragedy that befalls some. May God have mercy on their souls and guide them from their despair. Awareness is a first step to a cure, your poem has helped in that manner, Gershon. Thanks for speaking up. Bill

Indeed it is sad ! I always feel for them... ! How sad it is to surrender without a trace of love.

For the daily livelihood, the life of prostitution faces the terrible beauty of unasked death!

Whiled away the hours Conversing with the flowers? Or taking scalding showers? Remind me once again… With her job, I’d be thinking She would do a lot of drinking Trying to drown out all the pain…
