Am I Getting Punished, Mom

He looked so lonely, lying there
        Even his rags shivering
I thought he was asleep ...

But just as I put the ten-dollar bill
in a crevice in his cup

One eye seemed to open, and he smiled
~ I felt so warm inside

Happy New Year Gershon, What a tender, quiet moment of connection. The shivering rags, the hidden smile, and that rush of inner warmth make the poem filled with unexpected grace. Winter Blessings, Gershon, Daniel

Gershon, the title helped me appreciate “that final warmth” as a young person’s response to a quiet lesson of compassion. A Fav poem for me. Congratulations on Poem of the Day!

My heart melts reading. Nice to know, that, Gershon. "Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear & the blind can see." Cheers to good deeds! Congratulations on POTD! Homelessness rose by 34% -Point-In Time Count, here 44% of those on streets/in encampments. Many good returns to you~
