Along With The Thunder

A bizarre light show streaked across the sky.
The blinding lightning seemed to explode and electrify.

Vivid flashes of color to the clouds and everything under.
Striking blasts of illumination floodlit the night.
In total awe we eagerly witnessed this amazing sight.
Breaking the silence, more crashes of thunder came booming down.
Deafening the unsuspecting residence of our Sydney town.
A mind boggling spectacle was being played out. 
Unable to hear ourselves think, we couldn't even shout.
A memorable night, never happened before, maybe never again.
Now along with the thunder, comes torrents of rain.

As a child, I used to seek shelter in a dark corner of the room with eyes closed when thunder rains came. Even now I am not rid of that fear. But you have made the thunderstorm so spectacular and mind boggling. I wish I could have been there for the remarkable light show, but it's 12,000 miles from home. Loved your dazzling descriptions. Congratulations! Robert Speaks Volumes May 22, 2025 at 6:27 PM Hard to believe that after construction was in its 10th year and Jorn Utzon (Winner of the contest to design the Sydney Opera House) had moved his family to live here in Australia, political powers in the Liberal party, opted for a cheaper faster way to build it. Partly for cost and partly for appearances to win votes. Utzon, a perfectionist disagreed with these cost cutting measures and this led to him resigning as chief engineer of the project. He and his family left Australia and he never returned go see it finished. He wasn't invited to its opening ceremony years later. Another travesty in Aussie history. Your comment just gave me a stroll down memory lane. Thanks Robert.

It reached right out to the suburbs, I woke up to see all the windows of our house glowing red. EVERYTHING OUTSIDE WAS RED ! I raced round to find the fire, it was eerie ! Turned on the news to see it was a freaky dust storm. Maybe it should be my next topic. Google Sydney AU red dust storm 2009 to see amazing RED pictures. Thanks for your comment.

One night many years ago (shouldn’t be so but it is…lol) we stayed downstairs in our split level home the whole night (our family of five) The storm exacted over our residence all night long thunder and lightning with us as the center. I was at a ballgame (Durham Bulls) Storm was like watching a choreographed performance from the great beyond.
