Along Dawn's Amber Shores

Dawn slowly awakened to supplant the moon Empty, the canopy where stars had been strewn In repose, Luna slept after wandering velvet skies and spider webs shimmered in the flight of sunrise Dew drops evaporated upon the fragrant tuberose as a playful breeze billowed my sheer nightclothes Seagulls swooped and scurried along amber shores A salty crew grappled with the sea on labored oars Muscles pulled in rhythmic chorus, as if in lyrical rote as surging waves rocked the hull of their fishing boat They surpassed each crest and triumphed over swells The sun's prisms painted the horizon in muted pastels Inspired by the milieu of ruffled swirls across the sea sunlight dappled over its surface in sequenced litany I sipped a second cup as thoughts were being seeded Poetry spawned inside of me; a birthing to be heeded For as driftwood hastens down rapids to a new frontier I needed to ledger my verses, ere they hie to disappear August 13, 2022 2022 Poetry Marathon Mile 12 Contest Sponsored by Mark Toney

Awesome crafting of a dawn vignette, Lin. Such a delight to read your imagery-saturated verse with your deft handling of each element of the morning scene. Every line is a gem, but my favorite is "The sun's prisms painted the horizon in muted pastels". So glad this contest is giving some new life to older treasures. Congrats on the win, this is going to my faves. Wishing you continued success ~ John

Dear Lin, your golden pen continues to catch the light of success! Exceptional rhymes shine in the magnificence of your imagery. The thoughts that were "seeded" bloomed in sensual captivating beauty, dear poetess. I especially adore the last two lines for a grand finale! Congratulations for your excellent win in Mark's contest. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Lin, yours is another winning poem that finds the poet sipping a second cup (coffee or tea?) in the early morning. I applaud your skilled use of metaphors, personification, and similes. "Dawn slowly awakened ... Luna slept after wandering." "I sipped a second cup as thoughts were being seeded Poetry spawned inside of me; a birthing to be heeded." Congratulations on your second-place podium finish on Mile 12 of my 2022 Poetry Marathon Contest. Keep your running shoes on, because Mile 13 has already started!

Being missed is the greatest accolade you offer me. I thank you most humbly, John. I have to admit it feels good to be here again, sans the drama.

Just exquisite imagery, Lin, and such beautifully phrased lines ... all the layers and melancholy that I adore in good poetry - this is good poetry! I was surprised to see so many new poems, but very pleasantly so! I still have little time for commenting of late, but I will check in more. Blessings. <3

My wild gypsy muse has been carousing about and came home filled with thoughts that she whispered in my ear. Thank you for the many nods you've given this one.

Hello Lin, I'm glad to find this dawn on the crest of swells and waves that rise. And too the tale of the withered moon, not withstanding this shimmering poem's surprise. -Richard

Yes, Tim. I think so, too. Somehow the sea and sky meet on the horizon in full depth and breadth of each other and seem to blend as one. Thanks for the read and visit.

I think the 3rd was somehow pulled together with the least editing. Sometimes it works that way, and then again, sometimes I just have to walk away and return thinking, "What was I thinking?" Your last sentence is truly a treasure to me. Thank you ever so much.
