Alone, the Serpent
Can't you see?...just leave me alone
Desperate, in fact to the edge of sanity
Not knowing this charming ache carries stones
Thrown at your back, barely perceptible shards of "I want to be…"
Once the threshold is crossed he slithers over your bones
Claiming small parts of your soul that never will be
Guileful to the end, he always has known
What you thought was deprivation turned out to be his key
For now you have what you desperately sought, and
Alone
Will be the prize never worth the fee.
