Alas, This Is Now
I find myself wishing for times long since passed,
A time when it seemed the Sun always shone.
Nowadays my life, it seems overcast,
All the warmth and sunshine has gone.
How I yearn for those days in the hills,
Away from it all, just you and I,
Walking for miles, I see it still,
The towering mountains, cloudless blue skies.
Now here I sit, all aged and bent,
All I have left are memories to trawl.
Wondering where all my better years went,
Oh what I would give, to relive them all.
Happily though they are clear in my head,
So through my past often I plough.
Two different lives it seems I have led,
I long for back then, but alas, this is now.
