Age Is More Than a Number

A septuaginarian?! -- He doesn't look a day over 45  
  ~ But he's wracked with pain
  
He hasn't changed a bit since we were in college 
  ~ So what? His feet are on fire 24/7

Look! He has a full head of dark brown hair
  ~ Yeah, and he can't walk from here to the end of the block

But he's so well preserved for his age
  ~ Ha! Have you seen him try to navigate stairs?

I'll bet he still fits into his graduation suit
  ~ He sure does: Osteoporosis has hollowed out his bones 

You know, they say that you're only as old as you feel
  ~ That's true: He's old, he feels...

Caren Krutsinger February 2, 2019 at 11:03 PM "feet are on fire 24/7" got me. If I wear the wrong shoes, I will take a step and it feels like I have broken my ankle, sometimes both of them. Arthritis from so many destructive things I have done to myself. I have to laugh at this poem, my friend, because it is so applicable!
