Afternoon Afterthoughts
Like a late afternoon afterthought,
a sudden, heavy downpour drenches
and floods the parched marshland.
Here and there, across what once was
a mirror lake, wet grasses cast swaying,
tapering shadows in the dying light.
As the skyline fades into the twilight,
exultations throaty and raucous echo
from new puddles, fresh waterholes.
Shrill jubilations of insects and night birds
fill the air, rejoicing over a sense of rebirth
in the aftermath of a rainy afterglow!
