In this arid plain of perennial drought, as I stand transfixed with vexations rising in my spirit and sadness lying mute as a stone, I discern, I am alone with none to hold my hand or share the burden that weighs me down. Trudging through rugged paths with my mournful shadow tottering along, the past sneers at me breaking open bottled up memories- of years spent in unbridled passion, the smell of cigarettes, ganja and beer wine and women, bet and gambling, and the thrill of having won and lost I had addictions many and they kept gnawing into my psyche! Once I walked with stilted gait surrounded by friends and fans, amid laughter and haste eager to please and to praise Inebriated and effervescent were we Went to ball and ballets Fancied money could buy all we yearned and turn this Earth-a virtual Paradise But how swift was the twist of fate! With no condiments, life suddenly turned bland. The gorgeous castles I once built, burnt down to cinders like dry leaves blown by the wind, Friends, I thought never would desert, flitted away one by one! With dejection and despair warping me down a rabid dog I strayed. Grew irritable and vicious, fled away from bond and bondage spitting the saliva of my angst I barked… barked at everyone; “Where did vanish all the fabulous dreams Whither gone life’s ritzy splendors? But the wild fire burnt itself down, now a passive stillness has settled in. In this inert hush, as I grope, through the murky corridors of life with the sound of my footsteps falling like a thud, a single query breaks out from within ‘Where shall I hide unseen from this horrid loneliness staring me in the eyes?’

Dearest Valsa, poetess extraordinaire, your potent diction and poetic execution leaves me breathless with appreciation for your skillful creation of rich, soulful, vivid imagery and metaphors. You have captured the heart and soul of an addict with an aching, compassionate introspection. I especially enjoyed images like "sadness lying mute as a stone" and "a rabid dog I strayed" and your play with internal rhymes "how 'swift' was the 'twist' of fate" and word pairings "bond and bondage". Every verse is exquisite! Your question in the last three lines is truly profound and an impactful, soulful finale. A big Fav! Congratulations for your shining trophy win in Kai's contest. It’s a honor to share the podium with you. Your artistry spills the brim with your poetic gift. Warmest wishes my sweet friend.. ~Susan

Dear Valsa, you show the impact on a person emotions through addiction, very well... Your tone is reflective and sorrowful, layered with bitterness and introspection. The mood shifts from vibrant reminiscence to deep loneliness, creating a powerful emotional journey that resonates with readers. It explores the repercussions of a hedonistic lifestyle, showing how fleeting pleasures can lead to long-term emptiness. Best of luck in the contest..

My dear Valsa, how powerfully you have rendered the world of addiction and the torture and the illusion of the addict! You have shown in your expressive words the decay of humanity in the addict! How dark is that world! How degrading! If only the whole world would read and listen! You have profoundly portrayed the psychological and emotional state of the addict and the huge harm addiction can cause! A work of immense beauty and awareness! Worthy to be highly rated and valued! God bless you.

Wow Valsa you have captured this terrible choice people make and can not sometimes control. You have cleverly shared examples of this degenerate state of evil desire with dire consequences. Well done Valsa and a wonderful entry for the Contest. Best wishes, and good blessings to you for sharing this truth of yours...
