Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely

The president of Venezuela
was smoking a long panetela,
but troops were instructed
to have him abducted,
so Trump is now having a gala.

He thinks he has absolute power
and can make the world tremble and cower.
But it’s all a huge risk
and backlash could be brisk.
It could lead to his darkest hour.

Nice one Jim. There was some euphoria among ex-pats from Venezuela that they would become a democracy....but this is just about oil and money. Someone suggested to me D.T. had to abduct Maduro because Maduro was actually able to steal an election. That made Trump very jealous since he couldn't pull it off.

Do you think that he's picking Maduro's brain for advice about staying in power after 2028? Or maybe it's about how to circumvent (or even overturn) the results of the midterms coming in November! Enquiring minds want to know! Thanks for checking in, Duke. Take care.

Jim, I'm impressed in how you've weaved the breaking news into limericks. I especially admire your expression below, it must be said, we aren't an "Empire." This gives way for China to take Taiwan, etc...Greenland next?

It is now abundantly clear that he has imperialist ambitions. You may well be right; Greenland could be next. Glad you enjoyed the limericks, Anaya. Take care.

Are you disregarding the triumphant cheers of most who have lived under, or whom had to flee, this cruel tyrannical dictatorship? This country of Venezuela, hopefully will regain its former glory to the benefit of all it's people! This intervention will be viewed in their history, as positive!

I agree that Maduro was a cruel tyrant, but is this really just about overthrowing a dictator? Do you really believe that the POTUS cares about the people of Venezuela? This is about access to oil (among other things) and the chance for him to line his pockets and the pockets of his billionaire friends. He's even alluded to that in his statements over the last 24 hours. This was never about helping the Venezuelan people. That said, I sincerely hope that better days are ahead for that beleaguered country.
