Abandoned

The lush fishing village of Kaloo-Nong
Rich with folklore, dance, and song
Natives thrive in work and play
Through joy and sorrow, day by day

When young Tahina feels lost, tense, and blue
The villagers know just what to do
In the sacred woods they sing tales of yore
Soon Tahina is as happy as she was before

In New York, young Mandy feels anxious, and blue
Her parents know exactly just what to do
An emergency room doctor, sterner than kind
writes a prescription to calm her mind

Months, then years pass, as friends fall away
In a well of despair, Mandy dreads every day
Abandoned and lost with tormenting sensations
Doctors continue to change and adjust medications

Abandoned and lost with tormenting sensations... Doctors continue what they think is right, we know deep in our hearts the village's like Kaloo-Nong...is healing and Christian like. I agree Robert!

Sometimes it is culture not the individuals in it that requires serious analysis. Thanks, Anaya!

This is why they call it "practicing medicine" because it is such a "trial and error" kind of thing to do. Nice one.

Our alienating culture creates so much sadness and stress. Thank you, Ann. Robert

It's a vicious circle. Do you not take the anti-depressants recommended out of fear, and just spiral downwards with your other substitutes drugs and booze; or do you take them as recommended by physicians / psych professionals, that one is supposed to trust ... and the bloody things don't work as they should. The edges become sharper and the tightropes thinner...and one thinks of ending the dilemma abruptly (if you get my point) to stop all noise and confusion.

I believe that society's neurosis makes us neurotic as well. Mental illness is amplified by the mental illness of our culture. Thank you for your visit, Lady Labyrinth. Robert

Thank you for the comment. Psychiatry is the only field of medicine that has made absolutely no progress in the last half century! Robert
