A Woman's Plea

*Villanelle style* I ask of thee O, man of God- Leave me my name- I have done no wrong- So please spare me, I ask of thee- I am a woman and, alone, not strong, But I condone no witchery-So please, Leave me my name- I have not stolen another’s belongings, Nor have I been involved in adultery- Forgiveness, of what crimes I may have done, is all I ask of thee- You want my last belonging To be written down for memory Of an innocent woman being accused-Please, Leave me my name- You tread upon Me and only death you give me- I ask of thee, Leave me my name-
