An outcry from the populace,
amongst them a diabolic menace,
appealing to their weaker sense,
under every kind of false pretense -
What could they do?

The devil may whisper, or he may purr.
He knows the temptations we prefer.
Yes, that's true, but all the same,
we can beat Lucifer at his game.
Let's set a trap!

"You have cute horns and a tail,
I know some poor suckers, weak and frail.
In the darkness, follow me -
their despair, a glorious sight to see."
Good plan - will it work?

Yep, he plunged, all right,
through a trapdoor, into a cage of light
where folks could now keep an eye
on that unscrupulous, dangerous guy.
He "fell" for it!

Sure, they could intercept him,
but do you think a mere cage kept him?
He's still lurking at large.
We must be vigilant. Don't put him in charge.
Watch out!

Hey David, a nice compelling exploration of temptation showing the vigilance required to confront it. The way you personify the devil and illustrate the struggle against his allure is both engaging and thought-provoking. I was particularly struck by the line: "He knows the temptations we prefer. Yes, that's true, but all the same, we can beat Lucifer at his game." David such a wonderful blending narrative with deeper insights is truly commendable. Autumn Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

Thanks Ink. It seems like a have a little part of my brain, call it "the devil", and that part tricks the rest of my brain. The challenge is to see when I'm being tricked by myself...if that makes any sense - lol :-)

Thanks, Tom. Admittedly, I can't find too much evidence to the contrary.
