A Voice, Not a Gun

Why must we have sorrow again, and again?
When will peace ‘n love throughout the world begin?
When will mankind gather without harm and fear?
Bring a message of hope to all he holds dear?

Why does the violence of only a few
impact a whole race? Oh, if only I knew.
We must stop judging every race, every creed
by the actions of a few, who answer to greed.

Once again we have seen the hatred of man
who’ll lash out at others, just because he can.
He tries to force his beliefs on everyone,
not with faith or conviction, but with a gun!

In our country we are all given free will
To speak our words wisely, not go out and kill!

Oh were it that simple! Your heart is in the right place, Betty--but the world is a proving ground for far more than the physical. There can be no peace, without God. Man by himself is a wrecking ball of evil.

Well done Betty, simply stated but seemingly unachievable

You said it very well.I wish that there was no violence in the world. Why can not people live in peace? That would be nice. This is a good poem.
