A Ubiquitous Question (With Multiple Answers)
What happens
when a heart breaks
inside?
Perhaps, because its
internal
it's easier to hide?
But maybe it grows
sores
and oozes puss
that seeps
through pores
and leaves residue
and stains
like fingerprints
on windowpanes.
Or it might fracture
and break
and cracks form from
the anger and hate
of Love unrequited
and desire unreturned
and passion offered but
spurned.
But then again...
it might
decompose.
The rotting flesh
attracting crows
who scavenge and pick
at the bloodied mass
through open chest
until at last
the heart does rest--
and stop.
