A Toast To You America

Here's a toast to you America! May you ever thrive! May the Grand Old Flag, the Stars and Stripes, ever wave on high! Here's to the stalwart patriots who endured the Revolution! A toast to those who framed the Constitution, our Founding Fathers! You are the grandest nation ever founded by humankind! You are commended for welcoming to your shores the weak and oppressed! You are a beacon of hope in a troubled world and for that you are unique! A toast to "Honest Abe" who with resolve bound this nation together! Here's a toast to every soldier who served to ensure Freedom's Bell yet rings! Here's to the common-folk who with fortitude made this nation great! A toast to the pioneers who tamed your virgin lands in their westward quest! Thank you for the liberties we enjoy and for the grandeur of this land! Even with your flaws we are so honored and privileged to call you home! Here's a toast to you America! May God's Grace ever shine on you! Entry for Carolyn Devonshire's "Whitman-Inspired Uplifting Poetry" Contest (Took one of five First Place wins)

Bob, congratulations on your outstanding 1s place win! I am not at all surprised. I got a 3rd place because I failed to read the instructions properly. Carolyn was gracious enough to declare my entry as a winner nonetheless. I am indebted to and grateful to her for that. Again, congratulations on such a superb entry and 1st place win!

I'm glad you're not discouraged, Curtis. You have talent! I sometimes fail to read rules for contests thoroughly enough. You deserved a placement!

I second the emotion, Bob. Here's to America's vision, however flawed the execution thereof sometimes is. Three cheers, and Merry Xmas to you and yours! :) Gershon

Hello Bob … if we can put politics aside, the battlers are practically all the same and they are the folk who work hard that make nations great. We call them the unseen heroes - thank you Bob - Lindsay

You are so right Lindsay - the common folk and men in overalls are who make great nations. Thanks for commenting, Mate, and A Merry Christmas on you - Bob
