A Sweet Madam of Fair
A sweet madam of fair
sits full of beauty and womanhood as
her husband plays a sweet melody full
of harmonious devotion…
Though, I am not devoted to him anymore. I can barely hear his soft tunes, for I am engulfed inside the mind of another man. I fell in love with my lover Nicholas not too very long ago. I had been married for seven years when our eyes first met and since that day I vowed I would be with him, if only in secret. If my husband only knew how happy my Nicholas makes me, he would rage in anger and throw fits of mistrust in my face. He has always been the angry and abusive type. When I meet my Nicholas with bruises on my arm, he wants to ruin his life.
The tree I sit under weeps for me daily. He cried so hard yesterday all his leaves fell off his lonely branches. He knows my sorrow and treats me with the sort of kindness only a tree can give. I lay upon a white stone lifted above the grassland with a crown of red roses with my back turned. The crown was given to me by my lover. He stated once that I deserve to be treated like royalty and his nose thinks I smell like roses. This way, since my back is turned, I do not have to look my husband in the eyes and lie once again. I don’t deserve to be treated with such cruelty. Whenever my Nicholas enters my mind I know I am adored. Whenever I enter his mind, he knows he is loved. I stay there pretending to listen to his melody in agony so he does not know I have another lover. I scream of frustration inside. But soon I must make a decision. A very difficult one indeed. When I close my eyes, I see my Nicholas’s lips. When I open them and he is not there, I get a longing sensation to go be with him. We meet down by the creek and he whispers sweet nothings in my ear with his cheek by my neck. The cloudiness of today will turn into bright soul shining wonder tomorrow in my Nicholas’s arms…
I am nothing but a sweet madam of fair.
I sit full of beauty and womanhood and my
mind knows who my heart truly belongs to.
