A Stabbing

A student who was stabbed to death, It’s horrible to learn, Was set upon by kids so young It made my stomach turn. One robber, 13 years of age, Took part in the attack. For criminals of such an age, There is no going back. I know that’s pessimistic But a teen who has a knife Shouldn’t, with things being equal, Have such disregard for life. Though rehabilitation May be ordered by the state For both the victim and the perps, It seems too little much too late.

Ilene! A sad topic, but perfectly written. Evil never ends as you know. But if any child is brought up without valuing another, it shows up early in life. Teachers and parents ignore the signs of violence. I think hatred is taught by parents. I was beaten twice by twelve year olds as a teacher. Then six boys once tried to set me on fire with matches. Law Enforcement's hands are being tied more and more...see New York. And where did this happen! I rest my case!

Well said, Ilene! I will never understand how people - young or old - can so easily destroy a thing of beauty or promise. There is NOTHING anyone could steal from a student that would be worth imprisonment. Aloha! Rico

I read about this young student as well and the teenage kids who took her life and it is so sad and heart breaking. This is not the typical theme for you Ilene but still it was written wonderfully in your amazing poetic style.
