A special Christmas is sublime Transcendent in many ways Like simplicity at teatime Hiding uncomplicated gifts from gaze Singing jubilant carols of praise Christmas tree hunting upon the land Searching every hill and vale Finding one suitable, but not grand As long as we overlook one detail Like the aroma, please don't inhale Our money sparse, but love in good measure Homemade cocoa, buttered popcorn A Christmas movie, an inexpensive pleasure Slowly strange traditions born Memories of special Christmases adorn
I used rhymezone.com to check the rhymes The Quintain (English) has no set meter or syllables Written: December 17, 2022 Contest: A Christmas Special Sponsor: Emile Pinet Once we found a tree that looked really nice, but we put it in the stand that night and was going to decorate the next morning. During the night an odor started to permeate the whole house. An animal had been using the tree to mark his or her territory. The tree had to go. LOL..

Oh Sara, your poem brings such memories back for me. Being from West Texas, there were not many evergreen trees to be found. We'd cut a scrawny tree and my father would tie cut branches in the bare spots to make a "pretty" shaped tree. Sometimes we just decorated a big tumbleweed. The best of special Christmases. LOL A fav! Congratulations on your win! :)

Linda, I have tried to put in a branch to help even out a tree as well. Really nicely shaped ones in the wild are hard to find. I would say that using what you have that are plentiful is a very creative things to do. I am honored that you are faving it. Thanks for stopping by with congrats. Sara

The simple joys of Christmas of the old times stick to our mind more intimately than the pompous celebrations of today lacking the real Christmas spirit. Sorry you had to abandon the tree that you managed to get after a long search. Have a Happy Christmas Sara...

Valsa, Yes, times have changed. The stinky Christmas was a bad time, but we bought a live tree that year. We continued buying trees from a farm for a number of years quite successfully though on some cold windy days quite a few years. LOL..Your visit was uplifting. Sara

Jennifer, It was a sad ending for that tree and that time, but all things worked out except for the death of the tree. Your visit is uplifting. Sara

Gershon, Thanks for the added rhyming. I needed it today. Be sure to put your surprise gifts in the vegetable drawer. Never will be seen by the little ones. Just pull them out on Christmas. Sara

You describe the simple pleasures of a pure Christmas so well in this jewel of a poem, Sara. I can only imagine the strange smell of the tree, though…you never know where it’s been! :)
