Notes About The Poem

I have a two part short story here at Soup about an escapade involving my best friend Sheila and my once-friend-turned-foe Margo, but it is way back in my early pages that can only be found easily by using these links. So if anyone wants to learn the whole story about my junior high school foe, these links will take you to parts one and two of the humorous autobiographical story: What Finally Set Me Off. (I think the first link goes to part one)

A Sonnet On a Tough Girl

I never will forget in junior high
this girl who was a two-faced friend of mine.
I can’t remember now the reason why,
but she got mad for something asinine.
She said, “I’m gonna beat you up! Be at
the park, beside the water tower.” She
then told me, “Bet you won’t show up.” That brat
was MEAN! All day I fretted needlessly
of what could be a real bad episode!
So after school with my best friend, I went
And waited for that witch; she never showed!
With great relief, I then began to vent
to my best friend of things that we could do
to that “tough girl” - a chicken through and through!

*True story & dedicated to my junior high school foe, who later
went on to marry (and then divorce) the brother of my BEST friend!

The real life stories make such compelling writings. I couldn't make the links to the short stories work, do you think they still are posted here at Soup?

It seems the people that always act tough are the ones that are most afraid to stay true to what they said. I don't believe I've ever been bullied before (but it doesn't sound like a very pleasant experience!)... it's really fun to make rhymes out of a very specific experience (I did that once about a red arrowhead I found in the canyon one time... coolest thing I ever found!)

Hope you didn't have too many experiences like that. It obviously has not been forgotten so it cut deep. I've had my share too. Not nice!

Oh i don't remember any girl fights when i was in school. Of course it was a pretty small school, we had to be friends. I'm still around just not commenting as much as I would like. I'm having trouble with dry eyes and I can't spend as much time on the computer. But I'm not going any place. Love, Joyce

How funny, but it's true, that we never forget those days, ...there were sweet girls, and tough girls, and then, to meet them many years later...so often everything has changed,, including our opinions!

I've been laid off twice. The second time for 3 years. It was diffciult. But God gave me the strength I needed. It was also a time of giving much of our time and ourselves in helping other families! This was defenitely a growing experience for our family. Sometimes, it's hard to give, when you don't much to give. Thanks for your thoughts and blessing to you! Have a blessed day! JP

They chased me down and beat me up. I didn't get a choice. No friend in site to stand by me. They didn't hear my voice. I'm left to wonder just why they hated. Answers to these questions are overrated.
