A Sonnet For Imogen Rose

The moon could not shed such a glow as you, nor all the constellations ‘round the stars, nor planets orbiting the sun like Mars. Sun can only shine as bright, when new as you - the soft and shining morning dew, who lends life’s lonely beauty to the hours; such dulcet tones - your music like guitars, whose sounds the gods could not subdue. Though some may find a cry at night the plight of parents who loose sleep for care, and croon a tune of love, for love’s soft embers light. So sweet and clear I hear your infant tune, that smites my heartstrings with such strong delight and bids me fall into love’s tender swoon.

I do enjoy the sonnet form perhaps the most! And this is no exception! A wonderful write!

Thank you for the comment. I was challenged to write a correct Sonnet, since the examples I had for the class were not 'perfect"

Absolutely tender and gentle, wonderful tribute to a very little new person :) Congratulations. I hope you don't mind me asking the following: i know that many great masters os sonnet-writing never produce(d) a sonnet with an exact amount of syllables or feet. Is that the reason that the last line in your first stanza has only 4 feet?

and bids/ me fall / into / love’s ten/ der swoon. Seems like five feet to me. Thank you for your comment. I was creating an Italian Sonnet: two stanzas for a total of 14 Lines, with an abababab cdcdee rhyming pattern in iambic pentameter - 10 syllables per line.

An absolutely beautiful sonnet, Annette. Also, I thank you for your kind comments on my most recent sonnet. Sonnets are one of my favorite genres of poetry. Thank you so much for sharing. Elaine

Thank you. It is the result of a lesson on Sonnets with a Fifth-grade class. Even the featured Sonnets did not quite follow the 14 line, rhyme scheme with the volta. I tried for one extolling the love of my newest grandchild.
