A Smooth Stone
A smooth stone, I stood by the river
Letting it flow over me
My tears it carried forth
My joys left behind
Gentle hands ripples brought
A smooth stone, I stood by the river
Picked up from amongst green moss
A life begins, a life ends
Polished and kept on the sill
Sun glittered all around
A smooth stone, I stood by the river
In days gone by, gone by
No water to carry the tears
No moss to pillow the head
The sad river fondly remembered
A smooth stone, that stood by the river
