A Sliver of Moon
A sliver of moon is enough for me
As it hangs there in the sky,
Like a smile of the Cheshire cat we’d see
If, like Alice, we’d wandered on by.
A sufficient hint that we’re not alone
In the vastness out in space,
A reminder that all of those songs we’ve known
About moonbeams we’re right to embrace.
Though it waxes and wanes and then disappears,
I can guarantee it will deliver
To my mem’ry the best of its souvenirs –
Not its fullness, but merely a sliver.
