I was originally going to enter this poem in FJ Thomas' contest, "So You Think You Can Rhyme -- For non PM Poets."  Silly me!  I didn't realize, until I'd already written the poem, that PM stood for Premium Membership!  And of course, since I'm already a Premium Member, I'm not eligiible for and will not enter the contest....That said, I think that the poem below might have been a worthy entry.

A politician's life is such a sham, His every campaign speech is a scam. He runs for office unleashing radical rants and raves, Then votes the party line, so as not to make any waves. And then there's the little matter of his sex life, Which gets so upgraded in D.C., he forgets he has a wife-- Not to mention four sensitive, innocent children, Who learn the hard way what their father's really skilled in. He's not averse to taking bribes to meet his basic needs, Most of which are fueled by primal lust or insatiable greed; Yet when it comes to getting tough on criminals and crime, He heads up all the campaigns to rub out grease and grime. Just one thing about a politician is consistent: To reasoned discourse he is absolutely resistant; For after all is said and done, when the chips are down, He knows that you know -- he ain't nothin' but a hound!

Amen, brother! BTW, when the news had the story on Barbara Bush, there was a clip of her saying "Compromise is not a dirty word" - I wish more politicians would realize it is not about their ego but about actually doing something to help their constituents - have a good day, gw-

Thanks, sister!...And thanks for the message from Barbara Bush. She should tell it to the nation right now, if she still can. You know, messages delivered before one's demise need to be carried out by the survivors...I can dream, can't I? Can't I? Thanks for the visit and for the stirring observation, Michelle!! :) gw
