In the fields of life she grows wild and free amongst the wild flowers soaking the sun; gracing the world with her simple beauty this sweet wild flower is second to none; while spreading her seed from mountain to sea, this simple dandelion forever free. She’s seen in the meadow facing the sky; gently swaying with the warm summer breeze; perpetual motion as the day drifts by; ready to be plucked, her graces to please. The constraints of life need never apply; her freedom’s a given, we ask not why.

So sorry, John, I guess the picture of the "flower child" should have clued me in. I remember that time too! Freedom was certainly the key word. I worried about my big brother being drafted, Viet Nam War. The 60's... a long time ago.

Sandy, no need to be sorry, I'm just happy that you read it and got something out of it, that's the important thing. Different people who read a poem might get something totally different out of it and that's okay. Most of my writing is pretty simple and straight forward and has no deeper meaning. But every once in a while someone will see a deeper meaning and I think that's pretty cool and wish that I had actually been thinking that when I wrote it.

This is beautiful John. I can visualize your wildflower and the ones I remember from my childhood as they graced a hillside at home. A nice memory to revisit.

Thank you, Sandy, I'm glad you liked it and it brought back pleasant memories. But...I was actually writing about the flower child who was laying amongst the dandelions. Most people didn't get my meaning. The picture I have attached reminded me of growing up in the '60's and it being a time of great freedom. Life was so simple then...

Hello John, even though the dandelion is a weed I don't mind them one bit. It does make a dull ground look pretty. have a nice evening my friend.

Reminds me of the summer of 72 the song Wildflower by skylark was number 1, "be careful how you touch her, cause she'll awaken, and sleeps the only freedom that she knows" sorry got sidetracked, great song and great poem!

Hi John, I saw a simple yet beautiful flower that was courageous. Her free spirit was adorned in courage. A least that's my take along with the responses you made down below. Good job:-) Alexis

Thanks for your comments, Alexis. Growing up in the ‘60’s I knew many young women like this, experiencing their freedom for the first time. Such fond memories. John

I was wondering about the girl being the flower but I did not see how she would be spreading her seed. Maybe if it was seeds of joy!!

Thanks for your comments, Andrea, perhaps the “wild flower” I’m paying tribute to is the young woman, lying amongst the dandelions. John

That put a thought in my mind of a field in summertime with a scattering of wild flowers. Peaceful. Beautifully done John. Regards Tom.

Thanks, Tom. Here in Texas spring is the time when the wild flowers thrive, particularly the bluebonnets. They are truly beautiful.

Awww... John. This metaphorical write is so very beautifully penned. It's obvious this woman is a bit wild and mysterious. Oh, to be her! I love this poem. It is definitely a FAV!

Thank you, Rhoda, the picture reminded me of the 1960's when life was so simple and free...and those of us who are old enough to remember it, remember the feeling.
