A Simple Walk In the Park

A simple walk in the park Midday, sun high overhead Beads of sweat line the upper lip Birds dart in front of and behind passers-by An elderly couple graces a long bench Smiles frozen on their faces, fears nestle in their hearts They will not take that simple walk in the park Shuffling their feet, they journey home

I love this poem Gershon, the elderly couple brought to mind my own grandparents, feet shuffling into that part of life freezes my own smile. Time rushes on in the heat of life, while time slows down the lover's steps to stop at the park bench, smiles frozen like a backwards glance to yesterdays simple walk in the park. Sorry how I'm going on! This poem really got me. A fave.

A lovely poem on a park scene. But you could have gone there in the evening to escape the midday heat. Saw the old couple with 'smiles frozen in the face and fears nestling in the heart' ! Great description!

Tougher when you are older. My parents soldiered on through their 70’s

Good for your parents... I can no longer take 'lovely walks' already at 72. A pity, but you gotta play the hand that you're dealt! ~ Walking in my mind

A walk in the park is no longer a simple walk in the park for the elderly. This title could not be more apt, Gershon. I have peripheral neuropathy, foot drop, and thinning bones, and I use a walker. I am not complaining; just explaining. How many folks will relate to your understanding verse?

I'm with you, Shirley, in everything but the walker. (I use a cane for anything over 1/8 of a mile). We have to be on the lookout these days, for sure. ~ gw

I shall refrain from calling you and your throat 'Lumpy,' Jan... It is still such a thrill to see your avatar pop up, my friend. Certainly did miss your unquenchable enthusiasm. Take care, Gershon
