A Reverie of Childhood

A Reverie of Childhood A true sacred place and time of innocence where all things simple, fun, and happy touched deeply my heart and soul. For things that seemed real at first glance but full of some surprises later that many of us were too young to understand. A time where there was an instant camaraderie between and among us kids as we played games and chased each other. Finding out in first grade that I was the only “left-handed” kid in my class, and having to adjust to being “different” from the others. Developing an uncanny sense and interest in other languages beyond English when I was already overwhelmed with English. Gary Bateman, Copyright © All Rights Reserved December 7, 2018 (Couplet)

I have read your work and enjoyed it immensely. I can imagine how it would be trying to learn a second language at any age would be difficult but they say the younger a person is taught the second language the easier it is for them to learn. Sara

Hello Sara, I read with great interest your comment here on my poem, "A Reverie of Childhood." I am very pleased to hear that you enjoyed this particular poem of mine, especially one related to an aspect of my childhood, many years ago. Having formally studied now at least six different languages during my life, I can certainly attest to what you say. The language patterns learned at a younger age are easier to assimilate to. Cheers and Merry Christmas Wishes!! Gary

Thanks Demetrios for your read here and your gracious notes. I grew up in southcentral Kansas in the Wichita area, which is where I am originally from in the USA. My early formative years started in the 1950s. Today I'm "67" and how the years have flown by. Of recent, both George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton were left-handed, and so was Albert Einstein for that matter. I doubt that the political realm would want someone like me, especially since I'm a writer-poet now, LOL!! I'm a good person, although being a "lefty" means I'm "sinister" too!! LOL!! Best, Gary

Hello Tom, Thanks for your note here and for your read of this rather special poem. Yes, for sure, time passes by so quickly. As I mentioned to Demetrios above, I'm now "67"-- and I'm very lucky the school authorities in first grade did not force me to be right-handed!! I love be a "lefty" absolutely!! Best Wishes, Gary
