A Prayer
This poem is a condensed version of my crown of sonnets
This style is called a compound English sonnet. it is written in couplets. The rhyme is
aabbaabbccddccddeeffeeffgggg. It can be read 3 ways. You can read straight through or just read every other line. if you read every other lineodd or evens you're reading a normal English sonnet.
Dear God I pray you keep our men from harm
When in your grace they're safe without alarm
Let not your eyes from you now go astray
help each to stay the course when skies are gray
It's in your strength they'll learn to now rearm
Now with your help each foe the will disarm
They'll change what others do along the way
With choices that they make this very day.
You know the things they want and what they need
For with Your help I know they will succeed
They never need to run from you or hide
In all they do you'll always be their guide
Each step they take in faith they'll not concede
When to your will we find each one will heed
Now each of them have put your will inside
Because they let your faith in you abide
I know they shall be blest in ever task
As now they keep your word in all you ask
Help each of them to stay within your pace
Then understand this life's a holy race
Now all our thoughts appear to you unmasked
When in your light their souls are made to bask
But you have given them abundant grace
In all they do in each and every place
It's in Your strength they'll surely pass life's test
When they abide in your eternal rest
Help each of them to do their very best
It's then that they'll achieve a valiant quest
