A poem should explain itself -- define what it is – at the poem’s prepping, by the poet done all the required kneading whether healing or bleeding, a poem should be its own hunger or feeding -- should stand alone clear-day, or cloud seeding -- In conclusion – poems should require only a reader reading….

Yes, a poet should do all the kneading. Joe, you have a clear notion about what a true poem is. It should communicate to the reader clearly. Well expressed.

Even when not so common information is highlighted, a lack of understanding should not compromise the otherwise sheer enjoyment of a poem. If a reader things it is necessary to learn more about particulars, he will do so on his own, research where spiritually compelled. That further direction should not be initiated by the author. When an author assumes superiority, he is really displaying his own ignorance. Just my opinion. I only know how I feel. Could be entirely misguided.

Hi Darlene; thank you. Seems you see things more as I see them when it comes to poetry. I sort of feel, one writes a poem to the best of one's ability. The poem should fully say what one wants to convey -- or it is not ready for publication.
