A Play Off of a Short Story
A frown 'pon his face_ bills, bills,
into file thirteen
As she cleans, empties the trash
The unopened letter catches her eye
She pulls it out, with the letter opener rips it apart.
He has flown the coup, racing in his new sports car
She reads the letter_last notice_life insurance one-half million
will lapse today at 6 P.M.
He goes way to fast down a steep incline, speed and adventure his design
At speeds in excess of 110 MPH__He races onward to the mountain pass
She calls the bank to check on their accounts_he has spent all and has overdrafts
At top speeds he reaches the summit, longing for one more thrill
Just trying his sports car out
She
Checks the savings account, CD's that she had put away
Nothing_all gone
The only money available was what she had earned that day
Tip money..
Counting out fives, ones, and change..Just enough for the premium
Rushes to the bank, just a few minutes to spare
He
Loves adventure, thrills are divine
Foot pushing the accelerator to the floor as down the mount he flies
She
Rings the insurance company. The money is there for you to withdraw the right amount
Now covered_she can relax for another short while
He
Faster and faster he goes
This car handles like a dream
Round each curve and S bend makes him beam
Then close to the end of his flight of thrills
Someone driving so slow_He hits the brake_
None to be felt, he maneuvers around _face to face with tractor-trailer
As they pull the crumpled car from under the Peterbilt_
In his
dying stupor is heard to say well she won't get any insurance
