A penny for my thoughts
would not have bought very much
when I was coming of age... years ago.
I looked at the world with wide-eyed wonder,
not able to see further into the future
than enjoying high school life with friends.
But every bubble bursts, and dreams break hearts
when the innocence of our youth Spring
suddenly turns black and seems to ruin everything.
