A Parting Whisper
I feel it fading, though I wish it stayed,
The warmth we held now drifts away.
No sudden storm, no cruel disguise,
Just softer nights, and dimmer skies.
I must tell you, though it breaks my heart,
That what we built can’t stand the test.
The thread between us comes undone,
The spark we lit no longer burns like sun.
I see your eyes, I hear your plea,
And still, this truth keeps pulling me.
To stay in half-love is to lie,
To hold you close would only die.
So I choose the ache, the tearing free,
A wound for you, a wound for me.
But in this pain, a kinder end,
Than silence cold, that can’t defend.
Forgive the weight of what I say,
It cuts us both, yet lights the way.
For where our garden once grew true,
A brighter dawn awaits for you.
