A Naive Heart
A naïve heart succumbs to words of Hope,
susceptible to the promise of love.
But when left teetering on a tightrope;
all it takes is an emotional shove.
Trust steadied your every step, at the start:
yet your anxieties intensified.
And like a festering wound in your heart,
doubts and lies set trust's safety net aside.
You'll never be that gullible again;
having felt the sting of love lost to time.
And yet, knowing that love can inflict pain,
does not make it feel any less sublime.
And fledgling hearts are the first to agree;
you can't cage love; it'll die if it's not free.
