A Morning's Greeting
Like gossamer strands your hair fans out.
If I turn my head I can make out your face
Half shadowed, the rest lit by sunbeams.
Your eyelashes curl lazily as you sleep,
I want to trace your lips with my finger.
Your mouth invites, lips slightly parted,
Soft as velvet petals on dewy mornings.
I catch my breath, simply can’t believe
That you’re not a dream that could suddenly fade
If I touch, disturb this precious moment.
As I reach out, you wake look at me.
I do not have to look to know you’re smiling
It’s reflected in your sparkling eyes.
As we lean to kiss each other good morning
“I love you,” we both say in unison.
