A Matter of Form

After reading Connie Marcum Wong’s superb free verse poem she entered into Line Gauthier Free Verse vs structured Poetry Contest. It inspired me to go structured and write A sonnet, using as much of Connie’s poem as possible. First is Connie’s version, then my own. Eloquence of Election Expressions penned from soulful contemplation, Rather rhymed, in form, or in free verse style, May not decide my choice between the two. It is the sense of awe that is the draw... Awe that leaves one feeling so inspired, Tears well up in eyes and deep sighs follow. Poetry may rival the rising sun With wondrous colored shades from dark to light. Aquatic tunes in concert with moon's moods Enchant us with the music they impart. Awe that provokes one’s ardour to inspire While tears well in eyes and deep sighs follow, When to rhyme is to eclipse dawns sapphire Shades of dark to light, gifts from Apollo. Aquatic tunes in concert with moon's muse Enchant us with the music they impart, Lovers eulogize in poetry enthuse If one rhymed with an iambic Mozart.
