A Mandate of Faith

Who is deserved of justice In a nation of self-seekers Bent upon climbing higher, Gaining ever greater riches, Regardless of the slaughter. Who is deserved of mercy When destruction of innocence Lies bleeding on darkened streets, Boot-marked by the foot of power, Regardless of their woeful pleas. Perhaps it will be these sinners, When looking back upon their lives See nothing but the door of death And beg God for His forgiveness.

aH, YES, deb, and to one degree or another we are all sinners. As I move fitfully thru old age, I know the door of death is waiting ever so patiently-- if only the world would awaken!

Yes. I, too, see that faithful door. And agree that sinners we are. To see the sin is enlightenment. To confess the sin, redemption. But for this to occur there must first come humility. I fear our leaders are lacking that essential quality.

This explosive piece makes me think of Nigeria... It says it all about Nigeria...It feels as my country does not deserve justice, but I will continue to pray for its mercy... A great piece... Merry christmas and a happy new year.

Thank you so much, Funom, for gaining the meaning of this poem. I did write to the many countries who fall under the rule of tyranny. And I include my country, as well. I, too, will pray for mercy and justice. My best. Deb

Deb, this is really powerful and I wish it would have been entered in the contest. While I liked "The Birds," the theme was not as "on target" as justice is in this one. I agree with everything you say and the first verse alone is worthy of a win. Of course, justice administered by God comes at our final judgment. Bravo!
