What if love was like a river
living wild and flowing free,
like a ribbon through the heartland
as far as one could see.
Would forever mean forever,
if this were truly meant to be?
Could we leave sad memories
on distant shores?
What if peace was like a fire
that stops the chill from winters hold
and held each heart in comfort,
away from pain that's growing old?
Would forever mean forever
with souls alone out in the cold?
Could we leave sad memories
outside our doors?
What if hope had never found a way
to keep us in its stead
or hadn't even passed this way
for want of what was said?
We just might be wondering,
just wondering alone,
for all the love and warmth,
your light has truly shown,
and for the most enduring peace,
this heart has ever known.
