A Little Boy

A Little Boy is
	Jelly on his face
	Dirt under his nails
	A patch on his knee
	String trailing from
	One pocket and
	A frog in the other

A little boy is
	A bag of marbles in
	His right hand and
	Licorice in the left

He’s a cowboy today
	And a spaceman tomorrow
	He’s mud puddles and
	Clothespin boats

A Mother’s joy
	And her sorrow

A little boy is the angel with
	Scrubbed face and tired smile
	Who blesses mommy and daddy
	In his prayers every night
	And he’s the arms that
	Hug you tight

As you tuck him
	Into bed and
		Kiss good night

Very sweet. I enjoyed this poem. I have only one daughter, so this was an interesting perspective on little boys that I am not that familiar with. Soupmail.

Thank you, Eileen. I have tried to contact you before without success. I am one of the biggest fans of your poetry. If you find my book 'Point to Counterpoint: poetic reflections of life, love, and passion', you will see brief excerpts from your poem 'Obsessive Love' and high praise for your poetry and advocacy of sexual freedom. Please be free to contact me at the email cited in my book. I have not had the joy of raising a daughter. My latest posting: 'A Poem' touches only briefly on girls.

This one brought a tear to my eyes. I lost my only son 2 years ago. He would have been 50. Died of a massive coronary. His 3 sisters and I miss him so much. Thank you for this poem. It really describes what little boys are! Blessings, Susan

Nice poem about youth. Longfellow wrote "A boy's will is the wind's will and the thoughts of youth are long, long thoughts". Good luck with your verse! Peace & Love Matthew Anish

Well written and so very true. You spoke exactly how our little boys play through the day. Reminds me of when my brother was a little boy and now my grandson!
