A Kiss Like Kansas Weather

They say lightning never strikes in the same place twice But just thinking of his kiss Makes thunder in my chest Makes the hairs on my arms stand up The electricity charges my breath A perfect Kansas storm I can almost taste the earth that forecasts rain Every bird becoming restless for flight If you could measure wealth in laughter I’d have more money than god If there were as many stars as times I’ve smiled This earth would be left scarred and blind If he were a drug Quitting would be what really killed me I don’t remember doing anything That could ever convince me I deserve this When I see him I could fall to my knees weeping from the worship I know would take life times to give him Hell I want him to want me for life times I never said I wasn’t greedy I swear if I were made of thorns He wouldn’t hesitate to embrace me as tightly as possible anyway I want to memorize the way the light seems to hit his skin different when he’s excited I’d take my eyes sooner than tear them from his own This is not a love with training wheels This is the kind of love that leaves your knuckles bruised That makes a heart sink like stone And tear through the clouds at the same time This is the kind of love you hold onto with your ing teeth if someone has broken your hands I used to think if it weren’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all But nothing like that can touch me anymore I’ll walk under ladders I’ll even open my umbrella indoors His smile proves I’ve got magic on my side
