An October hayride through Valhalla Cemetery in St. Louis, with stops at certain graves, with the occupant* stepping forward to tell his/her story.

*Actor

Tonight we sit upon these bales of hay and visit characters who've long been dead. The research brought them life, allowed a say in how their history would then be said. Tonight, you came to hear their story told. A hayride through the graves, you say, how odd, but actors popped up here and there, so bold and brought them back as by an act of God. So come, and lend your ear to how they fared upon the earth when younger days were here, the struggles and the joys they must have shared, and how they dealt with death and conquered fear. Perhaps tonight, we catch a glimpse of worth from tales of those who lie beneath this earth.

Cona, wonderful tale, my husband tells a similar tale, he was stationed in Japan for 15 years and he tells how superstitious the Japanese are he would hide behind a tombstone and chant in Japanese “I am a Ghost “ and they would take off running. :) eve

That is hilarious. This was written when we were participating in a project on Halloween, in the Valhalla Cemetery in St. Louis. The St. Louis Writers' Guild Members (including myself) did research and wrote the stories, and the Hawthorne Player group members were the actors who stepped forward to tell them at the grave, as the hay-wagon paused, and a light shone on the tombstone.
