A Great Poet
I'm a great poet and I know it
But my accolades don't show it
Like a tree in early bloom
In a forrest's winter gloom
Those around me see my glories
Read my work and love my stories
Tell me "publish, and I'll buy it"
Knowing I might never try it
And those outside my inner sphere
Never hear my good friend's cheer
But someday, just around the bend
The world will say, I knew him when
