A Girl with a Thousand Watt Smile POTD

Into my silent world, stepped in a little girl I chanced to meet her in my usual haunt. As I sat away from the crowd on a park bench, Saw her feeding some pigeons right in front. It must be her usual habit, I guessed. From her awkward movements, I knew, She was blind and had difficulty in moving around. But the birds circled round, as some grains she threw. Though she couldn’t see the wonders of life, A radiant smile lingered on her sentient face. As a bird flew down and landed on her right hand, She smiled a 1000 Watts smile with an innocent grace.

Your poem's flow is seamless, and the use of metaphors gives depth to the portrayal of a smile. It's a delight to read; congratulations on your contest win, dear Valsa.

Dear Valsa, Congratulations on POTD where darkness dissolves not from sight but from a sudden burst of internal joy. Your words turn a routine afternoon on a park bench into a sanctuary, where the blind teach the seeing how to truly encounter the world. Amen! Blessings, Daniel

Reading this poem,I am reminded of Helen Keller.who remarked that the best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, but must be felt with the heart.Your poem beautifully portrays how the little girl's radiant smile and inner joy shines brighter than any physical limitation.A touching and inspiring poem.Congratulations on your POTD.

Dear Valsa, I have chills while reading these words from your golden pen. ' Though she couldn’t see the wonders of life, she smiled a 1000 Watts smile. ' This thought is the reason why I'm in complete awe. She '' felt '' the presence of those birds, and it brought a BIG smile to her face. Such a beautiful moment, indeed. Congratulations my sweet friend, on Poem of the Day. Hugs and blessings to you. : ) Brandy

Definitely it was a sweet moment for her. I am sure her act of feeding pigeons must have been her customary habit. Though this poem is partly fictional, this is based on a blind girl I always keep in mind with fond regards. While I was a teacher, that girl was in my class. Surprisingly she was the most lovely person of the whole bunch of students and the class topper. She had always a bright smile on her face and each time, I complimented her, she would accept it with a 1000 watts smile. Your comments always make me so happy. Thanks a lot dear Brandy.

Thank you so much dear John. Yes, such little gestures of empathy to man , birds and beasts are often overlooked. Simple folks find joy in little things. Often we are drawn by heroic acts, forgetting that with simple acts of kindness one can enhance one's joy.

Valsa, this is a stunning poem, and well written. I love the perspective of her sensing the beauty around her, to her delight, without having sight. And yet, we got the joy of seeing her delight through seeing her smile! Congrats on POTD Moon Harp
