Notes About The Poem

A Garden Wild

The gardener's hand was feeble,
    the poet's hand was staid
    Yesterday's dreams were buried
with seeds, last year were laid
    Yet flowers grew in rainstorms
    though coupled with the weeds
    Butterflies came to visit
    The gardener's heart was eased

    A smallish yellow butterfly
     on heal of monarch great
    Across the wild garden flew
     and not a moment late
   For though her wings were
little, and she was very small
   Somehow, she found momentum
to fly up the garden wall

   The gardener watched in wonder
in the scene that she was gifted
Each nuance of this garden free
   Her poet's heart uplifted
   The springtime long now ended
   and summers turned to fall
The gold was tinged with silver
and a fairy came to call

Hi BJ: What a delightful poem. It captured me right down to the sweet closing line.I have a small fairy garden that chose to be… with daffodils that return every spring and the magic that occurs there with birds calling and returning seeds that sprout ….you would understand…..Best, SuZ

It's truly a beautiful gift when the garden re-emerges, such a joy! I am again looking forward to Spring, and maybe this year I can plant, but if not, I wonder if my flowers will be back more wild than ever? I love the visits from the birds, the butterflies and even dragonflies. Thank you for your visit, and sharing your fairy garden with me, what a special and sweet gift we share in these flower gardens <3 I hope you're having a beautiful day, anticipating spring! <3 ~BJ

Love this wild garden with flowering plants, weeds and butterflies."The springtime long now ended and summer's turned to fall The gold was tinged with silver and a fairy came to call..." In these four lines you have encapsulated the whole year beginning with spring and ending in winter. Beautiful....!

Thank you Andrea! My imagery was taken from my back yard...in the garden wild :-) Happily, though it has been getting colder, there has been no hard freeze. My flowers are still growing, but not as brilliant as they were in September. I can't believe they are still there, as well as the butterflies! <3

Thank you Judy! The photo of the garden is my garden wild. It's getting colder, and I'm going to really miss it. It was a surprise to me this year, I didn't plant it, it came back from the seed from last year! I'm so happy that it made the list of best new poems, another wonderful surprise! <3

Oh how magical and magnificent, BJ. On the surface this is a poem about a pretty garden and gardener, but below the surface the soulful nature of this exquisite piece gives me so much more. A metaphorical beauty, rich, inspiring and emotional. A fav!! Warmest wishes, my gifted friend.. ~Susan

Thank you so much Susan! I'm so very honored that this is a fav for you! Yes, you are right, there is a lot more to these words than the surface, of a gardener and her garden. I am blessed to have even been able to pen it after what seems forever in a terribly dry period. Thank you so much for your visit, you have no idea how blessed I am by your words <3

Regina, your words uplift me and bless me so much. I had read your poem 'My Stolen Garden' and was so blessed by your beautiful eloquence of your cultured garden. I went out to my wild garden. It has been a tough year, I didn't plant it, it sprung up from last years flowers. I thought of your poem, and a Monarch flew by, literally followed by a little yellow butterfly. I thought, "Regina is the Monarch, she has inspired me. I'm the little yellow butterfly, but I will go and write my poem!" The fairy? It is the muse, the inspiration to try to write again. You are an inspiration Gina <3
