A Feeling of Fear

The air is dry, and each breath is a struggle.
My feet feel heavy and shackled,
Like a bird in a cage, I feel trapped,
Unsure of what’s happening, I'm frightened.

My heart beats like a drum.
fast and hard,
In this storm, I am searching for a
ray of light.
While inside of me, a monster is consuming my soul.
A voice in my head screams, This is
Fear. It’s taking control.

In this endless climb, the ticking
clock taunts,
Courage leaves and a cold shiver
crawls down my spine,
A knot in my stomach tightens,
I closed my eyes and in a whisper, I murmured, “Whine or wine?”

Great poem, I deal with fear every day, fear of people not reading my poems, fear of anxiety.. thank you for capturing my own words in this great poem. You’re a great writer. I’m not sure if I’m going to keep writing or not, maybe just on here and not print them out in my binders I created.

May fear be abolished. This poem is a great insight into irrational fear. I like the metaphors too.

You've described this monster so well. Fear visits us all. I like the analogy of the cage. It's hard to break free. Thanks for sharing and thanks for your visit to my page. Much appreciated.

Fear is an indomitable enemy, hard to conquer. It strangles our senses, leaving us powerless. The physical and mental changes of one under the grip of fear is powerfully delineated.
