A Fascinating Contraption

An umbrella is a fascinating contraption An apparatus with unparalleled import, It has evolved through many an adaption So let us never, inadvertently, sell it short. The English, yes, they call it a bumbershoot And for years I didn’t know why, but it is, A combination of umbrella and parachute Quite extraordinarily sensible, gee whiz. I have lost twenty or thirty in my lifetime Not needing it when I am ready to leave Since it isn’t raining, ‘tis certainly no crime, Needing it again, though, it’s such a peeve.

I always have my bumbershoot at the wrong time "Not needing it when I am ready to leave" misplacing it so many times it is crazy.

I finally got so when I would leave the church, if it was raining, I just picked any old umbrella out of the stand. It worked for me.

I still enjoy remembering the ladies in Baton Rouge Sunday stroll in pastel gowns with matching parasols . . . ., but as most people quickly find, opening a bumbershoot when it starts pouring rain can frequently be a bummer . . . . .Aloha!
