A Door Opens
I am a little girl in this dream
and a door opens
to wispy images like an old movie playing ...
I am helping grandma make cookies "a la supreme"
and on a scarred old wooden kitchen chair I sit
and grandma is stroking my hair with her wrinkled hands
as I put the dough on the cookie sheet
telling me ... good job
and even now I can hear her laugh like a sunbeam
it is a wonderful memory
and later, I am laying in grandmas arms
like a kitten purring as she rocks back and forth
humming a song ...
oh, this dream is like a sanctuary and refuge I seek
where again and again I can leave the cruelty
of the world
but now reality is calling for me
so, I let go of this dream of mine
until next time
